The goddess associated with the sea. According to the Prose Edda, she is married to Aegir and has 9 daughters. She is also mentioned to have a net in which she tries to capture men who ventured out on the sea. She can appear in mermaid form or with legs, she is often depicted as a beautiful flirtatious siren, and is the maker of all sea-storms.
